UG enters a new era with Water expansion

Much of UG’s success goes back to a gameplay philosophy that draws from classic games and other VR titles. “We were inspired by the sense of discovery and collection found in games like Pokémon, combined with the playful tone of Yeeps and the social energy of Animal Company,” said Continuum’s CEO in an interview for Photon, the basis of the game’s multiplayer experience. “Those influences came together in the idea of hatching and raising dinosaurs, something that felt inherently physical, social, and emotional.”
UG’s focus on discovery is clear from its latest update. The game has maintained its momentum through regular updates, but the new Water expansion is its most ambitious so far. Across three phases, the update introduced fishing, underwater environments with new movement mechanics, and creatures like the Spinosugus and dinosaur boss Mosasugus.
Continuum is also extending the game’s emphasis on collecting through its first ever merchandise. Produced in partnership with Juniper Creates, the collection includes a Spinosugus plush toy, swim trunks that change colour when wet, and two shirts featuring the Spinosugus and Mosasugus. The plush toy comes with a code to redeem an in-game Spinosugus egg, and the apparel includes matching wearable items.
